Hello! My Name Is…

My name is Alice Bond. I graduated in 1986 from Averett with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration: Accounting. My husband and I have two sons ages 24 and 28, a daughter in-law and a granddaughter who is 15 months old now. I am from South Boston, Virginia and live in Durham, North Carolina. I have recently changed jobs and am the accounting manager for Radio Communications Company in Cary, NC. My husband also graduated from Averett and is a pastor in a local church here in Durham. We love to go on cruises and see new parts of the world. I enjoy spending time on the weekends with our boys who live in the area and with our granddaughter.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree here at Averett University?

I have always thought about going back to school to get a master’s degree, but it was never the right time while our boys were younger and then in college. When my youngest son graduated from college, I decided that it was time for me to pursue my goals of going back to school and earning an MBA so that I could gain new job opportunities for myself.

Why did you choose Averett University’s Graduate & Professional Studies program?

I chose Averett for several reasons, but the main reason is that we both graduated from Averett as well as my mother and brother and I loved my time at Averett. The online program appealed to me because of the many hours I was working in my previous job. Averett had just what I needed.

This program has really helped me in my career. It has taught me so many new things and helped me to see business from the top side down and not just what accountants or controllers see.

How has your degree from Averett University assisted you in your career?

This program has really helped me in my career. It has taught me so many new things and helped me to see business from the top side down and not just what accountants or controllers see. It has opened my eyes to all the opportunities that were out there for me and helped me to get a new job with better opportunities. It has also helped me to realize that I want to open my own part-time business in clothing in addition to my full-time accounting job. It has also helped me to realize that it is never too late to go back to school and start a new adventure in life.

What advice would you share for current and incoming students in Averett University’s GPS Program?

I would say that don’t ever say it is too late for you to go back to school. Don’t ever give up on your dreams. You can achieve it if you work hard and stay focused. It is hard going back to school and working a full-time job of more than 40 hours a week, but if can be done if you stay focused and work hard.

What keeps you motivated while in your degree program?

My motivation came from within as I wanted to better myself in my career. I knew that I needed an MBA degree to do that. My husband and children helped to motivate me and remind me that I could do this. When things got hard, I tried to remember why I started the MBA program. Another thing that motivated me was remembering my youngest son’s graduation from college when an 80-year-old woman got her degree. It was then that I decided, if she could do that at 80 I surely could start my degree at 51.

What is your anticipated date of graduation?

I will finish my degree at the end of September 2018 so I am only a few months away.
