I knew that in order to reach the level of management that I aspire to, more formal training and education would be required. I knew the knowledge I would gain from Averett would complement my career aspirations.
What is your motivation for obtaining your degree?
I’m a firm believer that education is the answer to all problems. While being raised by an educator, I was taught that you never stop learning, Enrolling in a graduate program was a natural progression in my learning process.

Why did you choose Averett’s Graduate & Professional Studies Program?
Averett’s GPS Program provided the flexibility I wanted in a graduate program. The application process was simple, and I was able to start almost immediately with how the program start dates are slotted throughout the year. My admissions counselor was also a huge factor in my decision to enroll. Andrea Levengood was instrumental in walking me through the process, and easing some of the burdens that come along with enrolling in a full-time graduate program, while being a working professional.
Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students:
In traditional classroom settings, working with classmates on assignments and learning together happens naturally due almost exclusively to your proximity. You are right beside one another every day. I don’t think we realize how important this is to our success and I feel that this concept is often forgotten in a distance learning setting. I would encourage you to find a few classmates that you communicate with regularly. It will help keep you accountable. It is also nice to have an extra resource when trying to figure out homework assignments, the next steps in your program, and what to expect from upcoming courses.
What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program?
Paraphrasing Stephen Covey, I always try to think with the end in mind. Each course you complete is one step closer to graduation and one step closer to being a more well rounded professional. I even try to break it down into a more granular level. Every test, every assignment, every week, is a step closer to the end result. Knowing the amount of opportunities that will come with completing the program, makes the weekly and daily grind much more manageable.
What is your anticipated Date of Graduation?
My last class will wrap up on September 30, 2018. Averett University, Class of 2018!
