What is your motivation for obtaining your degree here at Averett University?
As a teenager, I have always pictured myself with my college degree. I was accepted to many universities, but my life took a different turn. However, the desire for my college degree did not go away. So my motivation is accomplishing a dream that I have imagined so long ago. My motivation also includes being an example for my children and letting them know to NEVER GIVE UP on your life dreams and aspirations. I am also the first person in my family to attend college, so this degree is not only for me. It’s for us.

How has your degree from Averett University assisted you in your career?
The business classes I have taken have opened my eyes to many aspects of my employer. I am able to see situations and circumstances from a different point of view. Hopefully, this is helping me become a better co-worker and a much better employee.
What advice would you share for current and incoming students in Averett University’s GPS Program?
In life, there is always going to be something that will try to interfere and block your dreams and aspiration but remember “this too shall pass.” Stay Focused, Stay Strong and Stay Inspired. Remember: “FAILER IS NOT AN OPTION!”
What keeps you motivated while in your degree program?
Because I have colleagues that have already been through the program, they usually keep me motivated. Receiving words of encouragement and positive affirmations from them have rejuvenated my soul when times get unbearable. The love and support from my family always keep me motivated. Finally, the smiles I receive from my mom and my grandmother when each class is finished, and I am a step closer to accomplishing my goal.
What is your anticipated date of graduation?
Averett University, Class of 2018!
