Averett University extends specialized military benefits and support to qualified students and their spouses. This includes financial aid benefits, portfolio and military experience evaluation for transfer credit, and more. Active duty service men and women and their dependents may qualify for our Military Scholarship.

Military Benefits for Averett Online Students

Averett University extends specialized military student support to online enrollees who are:

  • Active, reserve, or veteran members of the armed forces
  • Civilian employees of the Department of Defense
  • State National Guard employees
  • Eligible family members of any of the above

These include financial aid benefits, portfolio and military experience evaluation for transfer credit, and more.

Financial Aid for Military Students

Averett University is approved by the Virginia State Approving Agency to accept veterans’ benefits. These benefits have an impact on how your eligibility for financial aid is calculated, so you must provide a letter of confirmation from the Department of Veterans Affairs to the Financial Aid office. We also participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, offering additional funds to help cover any difference in cost between your GI Bill benefits and our tuition rates. Contact Military Affairs for more information about our Yellow Ribbon Program benefits.

Tuition Scholarship for Military Students

Averett Online applicants who fall into one of our military student designations above must submit the military scholarship application to their enrollment counselor during the admissions process.

Please note that this scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship offered to Averett Online students.

Military Experience and Alternative Credit Evaluation

Military students enrolled in undergraduate programs can transfer up to 90 credits earned through any combination of previous college coursework, DANTES or CLEP standardized subject tests, or military experience verified with one of the following transcripts:

Service members who left the military before 1986 can submit a a notarized DD Form 214 for credit evaluation in lieu of the above transcripts.
