I’m Joy Wood. I achieved my MBA at Averett University in 2006. I’m currently a mortgage loan officer for a national mortgage company. As I approached 45 I thought that it would be a great achievement to get an MBA. I have a daughter who’s 13 now, so I thought it would be super good to have her watch me achieve this great accomplishment. In my cohort, there were quite a few people here from others countries, so I was able to engage with a lady from Brazil, Finland, Sweden, and as we studied and explored, their ideas were very meaningful to me. I don’t think I would have had that kind exposure in any other setting in our community.

When I run into someone who’s thinking about going to Averett University, I’m going to tell them to make the call. That was the hardest step for me, because I didn’t know really what I was getting into. Once I called and spoke with the initial contact, it seemed so easy. The road map was laid out, and I knew exactly what I needed to do next to actually get to where I wanted to go.
