POSITION: Assistant Athletic Trainer
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Averett University, a Division III member of the NCAA and USA South is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This position is a part-time position open to those who are in the process of enrolling in a graduate degree program at Averett University or have recently been accepted to a graduate program at the University. Enrollment in one of Averett University’s graduate programs is a requirement of this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for supporting the management of a varsity intercollegiate sport program at the University. Duties will include engaging in the prevention, recognition, assessment and immediate care of athletic injuries. In addition, Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers will serve as game management staff at off-season intercollegiate contests as assigned by the department, as well as helping monitor student-athletes out of practice assisting residence life and student success as needed.
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer in the coverage of various sports.
- Assist in the prevention, recognition, assessment, immediate care, rehabilitation, and athletic training services for all intercollegiate sports at the University.
- Assist in the education and supervision of athletic training students during practice, games, and within the athletic training room
- Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and conduct becoming of the Athletic Training profession adhering to all college and professional sport association guidelines
- Adhere to all NCAA, USA South and sport rules and regulations.
- Serve as game administrator at intercollegiate contests as assigned by the department and/or assist in other assigned duties in support of the department and program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- All applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from a CAATE Accredited Institution; NATABOC exam eligible (Must be certified by June 2018); CPR certified; and must be eligible for State of Virginia Athletic Training License
- Valid driver’s license and a clear driving record required.
- Graduate Assistants must be in and remain in good academic standing while enrolled in an Averett University graduate program
COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Graduate Assistants will be provided a compensation package that includes a salary stipend, a stipend for room and board, and graduate program tuition remission with the expectation that they will participate in team nutrition tables; be visible in the dining hall and residence halls after hours to support the Residence Life program; support the afterhours emergency response protocol in place for the University; support and engage students and student athletes in learning opportunities outside of the classroom and playing field through the student life program. Assist in study hall monitoring and academic progress evaluation in support of the Student Success Office.

POSITION: Residence Life Graduate Assistant
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Position begins July 1, 2019 and ends June 30, 2020 renewable for one year.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life, the Graduate Assistant (GA) supports Housing & Residence Life in its efforts to enhance the residential experience within the Averett University community. As a 12 month live-on position, the GA provides leadership for Residence Life student staff in an assigned area. By maintaining visibility and approachability to student staff and residents, the GA educates residential students on University policies and builds community in their respective living areas or areas of oversight. A Residence Life GA focuses on the educational programming curriculum created by the Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates must be accepted and enrolled as a full-time graduate student and carry a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester or equivalent full-time standard set by your program.
- Other paid employment is strongly discouraged while the GA is employed by the Department of Housing and Residence Life. However, if the GA finds it necessary to have other paid employment (outside of Averett), they must discuss it with their supervisor and receive approval.
REMUNERATION:
- Remuneration includes housing in an Averett University’s residence hall and a $3,000 stipend for the academic year. Housing assignments vary in size and configuration by residence hall.
- Tuition waivers provided for graduate studies at Averett University.
- Declining Balance Dining Hall Meal Plan.
- Adjunct pay for co teaching an IDS course.
TEACHING ASSESSMENT:
- Create Residential Learning Experiences promoting the residential community based on the University’s mission and in conjunction with the University Strategic Plan using the Educational Programming model provided by the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
- Assess semester outcomes with Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations at the start and end of each semester.
- Review assessment data to modify or realign curricular learning objectives in course description.
- Address objectives pre-semester and post semester within the Educational Programming Model.
- Assess the overall satisfaction of the residential communities on campus at the completion of the academic year through student evaluation.
- Co- teach an IDS 101 course.
STUDENT AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT & SUPERVISION:
- Co-Supervise UGHD’s and Resident Assistant (RA) student staff members.
- Provide on-going support to student staff, having one-on-one meetings with each staff member bi-weekly.
- Organize and facilitate a weekly staff meeting with UGHD staff.
- Evaluate under the Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations student staff throughout a continuous performance appraisal process.
- Facilitate under the director of the Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations, training sessions for the student staff during the August and Winter Trainings.
- Serve as an appropriate role model in the areas of lifestyle (i.e., abiding by University and Housing policies/rules and regulations), contributing to Department/Divisional goals and balancing academic, professional, work, and personal life issues. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the selection, training, and evaluation resources of Resident Assistants.
- Assist in the process of Housing selection in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Housing Operations.
- Conduct building rounds and inspect public area facilities on a regular basis. Completing maintenance and building work orders as needed. Be knowledgeable of facility layout and operation of building systems (i.e., locks, fire panel, sprinklers, etc.). Be cognizant of the day-to-day condition of the building regarding maintenance, facilities services, and safety issues. Understand procedures for addressing various facility issues (i.e., emergency maintenance/building services, etc.).
- Maintain a work schedule designed for maximum accessibility and involvement with students, even during evening and weekend hours (i.e., 25 hours per week).
- Facilitate annual and semi-annual housing procedures (i.e., Fire Drills, Health and Safety Inspections, Walkthroughs, etc.).
- Effectively utilize on-line applications and computer programs to perform job functions and maintain communication with Housing staff (i.e., e-mail, Advocate, The Housing Director, etc.).
- Serve within a weekly on-call rotation as a first responder for emergency situations involving Averett University’s residential students.
- Serve as a Conduct hearing officer.
DEPARTMENTAL:
- Attend weekly Housing & Residence Life staff meetings.
- Meet with Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations regularly.
- Participate in professional development opportunities that may include developing programs and implementing workshops, attending conferences, and in-service opportunities.
RESIDENCE HALL ASSOCIATION CO-ADVISOR AND MENTOR:
- Mentor the advisor in maintaining membership.
- Mentor the advisor in residential living community development.
- Attend RHA meetings and mentor the president of the organization with meeting agenda.
- Work to establish working relationships between RHA executive board members and the student body.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- Attend weekly Housing & Residence Life staff meetings and monthly GHD development meetings.
- Meet with director regularly for one-on-one supervision.
- Participate in development opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.

POSITION: Head Golf Coach
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Averett University, a Division III member of the NCAA and USA South is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Graduate Assistant Head Golf Coach. This position is a part-time coaching position open to those who are in the process of enrolling in a graduate degree program at Averett University or have recently been accepted to a graduate program at the University. Continuous enrollment with good academic standing in one of Averett University’s graduate programs is a requirement of this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As coach, the Graduate Assistant is responsible for:
- Designing exercises and activity programs for student athletes to teach and build skills and knowledge of the sport.
- Evaluating student performance, including skill levels, areas needing improvement, and attendance.
- Working with supervisor as assigned to discuss student assignments, plans, strategies, and issues.
- Delivering lectures and presentations on skills, techniques, and other educational topics.
- Organizing and conducting practices and contests in all aspects necessary to run a competitive Division III program.
- Recruiting a diverse group of qualified student athletes for successful participation at the varsity athletic level
- Advising and supervising team members, captains, Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) team representatives and team managers.
- Demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, and conduct becoming of the coaching profession; adhering to all college and professional sport association guidelines.
- Adhering to all NCAA, USA South and sport rules and regulations.
- Serving as game administrator at intercollegiate contests as assigned by the department and/or assisting in other assigned duties in support of the department and program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and successful coaching, playing, and/or teaching experience is required.
- Experience at the intercollegiate level is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and a clear driving record required.
- Graduate Assistants must be in and remain in good academic standing while continuously enrolled in an Averett University graduate program.
