Goals and Course Topics
Through Averett University’s online Reading Specialist-Virginia Endorsement Graduate Certificate, you will be equipped with the knowledge and understanding required to further your career as a Reading Specialist.
As a graduate of this program, you will be prepared to diagnose and assess students struggling with reading difficulties, develop curriculum and instructional methods, and empower fellow teachers to help their students excel in their educational career.
Please note: In order to obtain endorsement from this program, a passing score on the Reading for Virginia Educators, Reading Specialist assessment and three years of successful classroom teaching experience in a public or accredited non-public school.
Format
The certificate is designed to be completed in three semesters. You will take classes one at a time in eight-week blocks to allow for intense study of each concept. All courses are taught by licensed Virginia Educators working in the field as building administrators, instructional specialists and teachers.
Practicum and internship experiences designed to be completed in your own school division are embedded through out the program.
Who This Certificate Program Is For
The program is for educators who already hold a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree and wish to become a Reading Specialist. This is an online degree program so you must have access to an Internet-connected computer. Students with a GPA below 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
