Hello! My Name Is…
My name is Angela. I am a mother of six wonderful children (24, 20, 12, 11, 9 and an angel in Heaven). I am a full time Department of Defense (DoD) civilian and I work as a Management Analyst for the Assistant Director for Combat Support, in the Defense Health Agency. My part time career and hobby is baking and decorating, and I am the business owner of Flourbombs Bakery. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, basketball, bowling, and spending time with my family and attending the kids sporting events.
What is your motivation for obtaining your degree here at Averett University?
My motivation to pursue and obtain my degree in Business Administration at Averett University comes from my children, first and foremost. I want to show them that even at my age, decades after graduating high school, and in the middle of my professional career, I am able to dedicate time to excel in my studies and obtain a college degree. I want to show my kids that anything is possible if you just apply yourself! I’m also motivated by the encouragement my Professors, Academic Advisers, and all of the Averett University staff gives us. They truly are a representation of a highly professional, dedicated team! They want to see their students succeed, and they are willing to go above and beyond to provide whatever support you need. I think that’s really great!
Why did you choose Averett University’s Graduate & Professional Studies program?
I chose the GPS program because it works well with my professional and personal life. I am able to manage my time the way that works for my schedule, and I’m able to do all of my schooling online. Initially, I was nervous about taking all of my courses online. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at not only how convenient the experience has been, but also how well I’ve done.

How has your degree from Averett University assisted you in your career?
I don’t have a degree yet, but I know that after I earn my Bachelor’s I will have set myself up for a promotion and continued growth. More importantly, I want to use my degree to further enhance my personal business so that one day, I’ll be able to work for myself and not someone else.
What advice would you share for current and incoming students in Averett University’s GPS Program?
My advice would be to utilize all of the resources Averett University offers. Reach out to your Academic Advisers, to your Professors. Ask questions, no matter how silly you feel. Manage your time wisely and create a schedule to ensure you complete all of your assignments on time. Get rid of all of your distractions and truly dedicate your time and energy to invest in yourself and your education. Most of all, when you have second thoughts about what you’ve gotten yourself into, when you feel over your head, remember why you started in the first place. Whatever that reason is, remind yourself and keep pushing forward!
What keeps you motivated while in your degree program?
Honestly, I look at photos of my children. I tell myself that you have to work hard for things in life in order to do bigger and better things. My Fiancée also motivates me when I feel over-burdened, and reassures me that I can do this! When I’m especially miserable and tired, I remind myself that the sacrifice is not forever!
What is your anticipated date of graduation?
May 2023 (Whew! Seems so far away!)
