Coupled with your major and general education coursework, the Homeland Security minor significantly enhances your capabilities related to homeland security and emergency preparedness.

Goals and Course Topics

The Homeland Security minor prepares students to meet the many needs of our communities and of society. It will give you a solid foundation for providing professional law enforcement services and increasing public trust and confidence in police agencies. Course topics include:

  • criminology
  • criminal justice
  • terrorism
  • criminal justice systems and
  • legal and constitutional issues in homeland security.

Homeland Security Minor Format

This program’s content is presented in lectures and in-class discussions online. Small classes allow you to participate in discussions and benefit from personal attention from your instructor as needed. The time for completion depends on the number of courses you take per semester. If you take six courses for 18 credit hours at once, you can complete the Homeland Security minor in one semester. You may take one to five courses during each 15-week semester.

You must apply far enough in advance to submit transcripts and follow acceptance procedures. If you are currently a non-traditional student, check with Financial Aid to ensure your minor courses will be covered.
