What is your motivation for obtaining your degree?
My motivation for obtaining my degree is to further my education in order to be more competitive in the job market. I want to be able to obtain a career that is closely related to my personal likes and not just taking anything that comes along.
Why did you choose Averett’s Graduate & Professional Studies Program?
I chose the IDEAL program after being a traditional student my junior year after transferring from Danville Community College. I like being a traditional student and being on campus is great, but with having to work and manage my home with three daughters the time on campus was too much. I needed to be closer to my family and flexible with classes in order to continue to work.
Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students.
A tip for my fellow classmates and future AU students is to always seek help for anything you need with staff. Since day one from my application, through my courses, and anything else around the staff are always willing to go the extra mile. I was lost wandering around and the security guys were always glad to take me where I needed to go and not just point and say go that way. If I was confused on assignments each one of my many professors has taken their time to assist in any way. Never forget the AU staff members and even fellow students are always friendly and caring so do not hesitate to ask before getting overwhelmed.

What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program?
What helps to keep me motivated while I am in the program is knowing when I finish this will be worth all of the extra hours studying, writing, and stressing. There is a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how far away the light seems you will get there. Coffee also is a big factor in motivation.
