Did you just enroll in a graduate program, or thinking to enroll, and are already stressed?

If so, you’re not alone! A full-time job, family, and friends – these are just a few of the justifiable reasons that you already feel overwhelmed. Everyone’s situation is different, but everyone has the ability to determine their own success.

Here are a few tips to help you be more successful and feel a little less overwhelmed.

The 3 Ps-Prepare, Prioritize and Persevere

Prepare ahead of time-

Preparing yourself for the expectations of your graduate course and becoming familiar with the structure of the course prior the start date, will help you to feel organized and in control. Admissions Counselors and/or New Start Coordinators are great resources for helping you develop a plan.  Don’t be blindsided by due dates and workloads, be ready for your success!

Prioritize your Lifestyle-

When you have a family, full-time job, daily commitment to health and household duties, there is no “perfect time” to start graduate school. Although it won’t always be easy, you’re ready to take the next step in your education to improve your life.

Fortunately, at Averett University, graduate courses are completely online, allowing you to take courses at your convenience. Online courses allow you to create your own schedule while learning how to balance your other responsibilities.

Always keep in mind why you started and understand the impact this degree will have on your life. And please remember to go easy on yourself! Ask for help from family and friends, and focus on you a bit.

Persevere, even when it gets tough-

Continuing with your degree plan is critical to your success. When the courses get difficult, and your other responsibilities start to pile up, remember to keep pushing. During the planning process, it’s important to write out your goals and keep them handy to refer back to when you’re struggling. Don’t forget that you have resources at your disposal, Professors and Success Coaches are here for you. Keep pushing and exceed those goals.  This is your time!
