My name is Lauren Horsley. I am currently pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice/Sociology. I work at a financial company in the risk assessment and compliance department. I have a soon to be two-year-old son. I enjoy spending time with my family and doing fun and exciting things such as traveling. My hobbies include couponing, shopping, trying new foods, and finding new places to take my son.
What is your motivation for obtaining your degree here at Averett University?
My son is my motivation for obtaining my degree. I want to show him that anything is possible. I want him to know that Mommy and Daddy will do whatever it takes to better themselves and provide him with the best life. I want to advance in my career and continue reaching for the top so that I can give my son the world.
Why did you choose Averett University’s Graduate & Professional Studies program?
I chose Averett’ s GPS program because it seemed like the best fit for my active life. Being a full-time parent and having a career is very time consuming. The GPS program is designed for people with busy lifestyles and is geared towards preparing adults for success.

How has your degree from Averett University assisted you in your career?
My degree has assisted me in my career because I work closely with the legal and compliance department. I can apply the knowledge that I have gained to help implement changes in my workplace.
What advice would you share for current and incoming students in Averett University’s GPS Program?
My advice to current and incoming students is to never give up. I know sometimes it will be challenging and you’ll feel like there is too much on your plate but remember you have come too far to give up. Keep pushing, talk to your professors, and pace yourself. Always remember your goals.
What keeps you motivated while in your degree program?
My son keeps me motivated. When I am tired and feel like I just can’t do it anymore I remember that my son is watching me. I keep in mind that I am bettering myself for him.
