What is your motivation for obtaining your degree?
What motivated me to get into this program I guess would be that I have worked in the Shipping Department for the last 37 to 38 years and I need a change. So when this opportunity came along I jumped at the chance.
Why did you choose Averett’s Graduate & Professional Studies Program?
Actually, I ran across an article about the GPS program in the Martinsville Bulletin. I read just half of the article, the other half was on the next page. Once I read the entire article, I gave it some thought and decided I will try this. If something does not go the way I planned, it was not meant to be.
Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students.
Don’t let anyone discourage you from getting your degree. There will be people who will say negative things…just let them roll over your shoulder and keep on keeping on.
What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program?
My grandmother keeps me motivated, she passed away Dec. 3, 2017 and I got to talk about this program to her every chance I got. I had planned on dropping out when she passed, until I was told not to – and that she was proud of the fact I was doing this. I said I can’t let her down.
