What is your motivation for obtaining your degree?
My motivation for my degree is actually a lifelong goal of mine. I dream of one day opening a dance studio that not only offers regular classes but also offers classes for special needs expression. I think it is of vital importance for these children and adults to be able to express themselves just like everyone else and there are not enough opportunities outside of large cities.

Why did you choose Averett’s Graduate & Professional Studies Program?
I chose Averett because the pastor of the church that I was at is on the board and talked highly about it. Then I also received an email about the opportunities that Averett offered through the school district I worked for and liked the idea of completely online classes and a 20 month program to finish with a license.

Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students:
I recommend that everyone fights for the things that they want. Especially in college or graduate degree programs, I believe that it is important to keep that communication open and ensure that you are getting the experience you are paying for, while learning to keep it professional and concede when necessary.

What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program?
Knowing what my end goal is keeps me motivated to continue going and push forward. Having a goal in mind and knowing that this is how I achieve that keeps me pushing myself to continue. Of course, it does help that I am paying for it myself, and losing that money is not an option for me!

What is your anticipated Date of Graduation?
I am hoping to graduate in June 2017 with my Master’s Degree in Special Education with finishing licensure classes in December 2017.
